Tax Incentives Update

Issue: Tax Incentives for Fuels and Vehicles

Background:  Several tax incentives for fuels and vehicles expired on December 31, 2009.  These include the $1.00 per gallon production tax credit for biodiesel and diesel created from biomass; the motor vehicle credit for heavy duty hybrid trucks; and the incentive for natural gas and propane used as a transportation fuel.

Status:  The House of Representatives has passed H.R. 4213, which would extend the expired provisions.  The Senate, however, has not acted on the legislation
